UIM Mentor Match
In my role as Mentorship Chair of SNMA, I collaborated with Sandra Perez (UCSF SOM '21) to design and implement this mentorship program. In this capacity, I designed the program structure, recruited participants, fundraised for programming, organized workshop events, and oversaw the program through two cohorts.
The program began in January 2018. There was so much interest in this program from faculty that, for our first cohort, we had more faculty than students to match them to. By the end of my term in December 2019, I was managing two cohorts: 127 mentees and 127 mentors for a total of 254 participants. In addition, the program had received official sponsorship and support from the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Program Structure: Mentorship Families
Each interested mentor and mentee completed an intake form to collect information about their demographics and professional intentions or focuses. One UIM medical student mentee (MS) is hand-matched with one UIM physician mentor (MD), based on common clinical, research and professional interests to form a "Mentorship Pair:"

Mentorship Families
Each Mentorship Pair was further hand-matched into a "Mentorship Family" with other pairs. I designed this structure with the intention of fostering UIM community and engendering multiple mentorship connections (between mentees and mentors and also within peer groups).
Mentorship Families would come together for annual Launch Events and mentorship workshops. They were also encouraged to get together on their own.
