Student-run PPE Drives
When the COVID19 pandemic first emerged as a national threat, the country was facing a shortage of personal protective equipment. Myself and Hunter Jackson (UCSF SOM '21) mobilized into action and began collecting unused PPE donations from the community. This effort turned into one that gain national attention and inspired other medical students to do the same.
Collectively, UCSF students received over 23.5K masks and donated them to the hospitals in most need (i.e., Zuckerberg San Francisco General, Highland Hospital, San Francisco Veterans Association, and more). Other leaders in this effort included Francis Wright, Anthony Nardone, Noor Chadha and supported by dozens more student volunteers. Students sat on street corners around the Bay Area with cardboard signs and baskets to collect masks, gloves, sanitizing products and more.
